Shetland by Ferry
A fleet of 12 ferries provides ferry services connecting mainland Shetland with outlying islands. Services run from 15 terminals to 8 islands providing a vital link for nearly 3,500 people.
Ferry services are specified by ZetTrans and provided, principally, by Shetland Islands Council. Services operate to Bressay, Fair Isle, Papa Stour, Foula, Whalsay, Skerries, Unst, Yell and Fetlar.
Roll on / roll off services, carrying passengers and all types of vehicles, operate every day to the islands of Yell, Unst, Fetlar, Whalsay and Bressay. Vehicle places can be reserved on all these routes except to Bressay and it is advisable to book ahead, especially at peak times.
Freight and limited passenger services operate to Foula, Skerries, Fair Isle, and Papa Stour. Frequencies for these services vary from 3 to 12 return sailings per week. Some vehicles can be carried on these routes. All passengers and vehicles must be booked.
